INSIGHT: Prom, Events, and Legacy: A Year in SLC

By Emma W. and Sam K. (both Class of ’24)

And just like that, another year of EPS is behind us. It’s in this bittersweet moment that we find it appropriate to look back and reflect on our role as prom and events co-chairs this school year and how those who follow in our footsteps can learn from our time in the position. Being a part of SLC this year, apart from being an honor and a privilege, has been a blast and such a fun community to be a part of. Together, as first-time SLC members, we have had the opportunity to shape the student experience, fostering a sense of community and excitement that will be remembered for years to come.

This year has been remarkable, not just for the number of events we organized but for the level of student engagement and participation we witnessed. From the very beginning, we set out to make this year the most eventful in our school’s history, and we are proud to say that we achieved this goal. The overwhelming turnout and enthusiasm at each event were testaments to our collective efforts and the vibrant spirit of our student body.

One of the standout events of the year was our re-imagination of Winter Wars, now known as Winter Fest. This event was a major highlight for us, as we were able to rebrand the tradition into one that brought the grades together in the spirit of winter cheer rather than pitting them against each other. This transition was no small feat, but seeing our peers come together to celebrate in decoration and a series of fun activities made all the hard work worthwhile.

Our school dances, Homecoming and Fire and Ice, were also significant milestones. Homecoming, as always, was a huge success, with students eagerly participating in spirit week and showing up in their finest attire for the dance. Fire and Ice, our new dance event, added a fresh twist to the school’s social calendar. The themed decorations, music, and overall vibe created an electrifying atmosphere that kept everyone on their feet all night long.

Now, as we eagerly anticipate prom, we can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. Prom is not just the culmination of our efforts this year, but it also marks the end of our high school journey. We are excited to see all our plans come to fruition and to create an unforgettable La La Land-themed night for our peers. The theme, decorations, and music—every detail has been meticulously planned to ensure this prom will be the perfect send-off.

Reflecting on this year, we are incredibly grateful for the support and participation of our fellow students. The success of each event was a collective achievement, a testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of the entire student body. We are proud of what we have accomplished and are thrilled to see how our legacy will be carried forward by future SLC members.
