Scientific Thinking
Also: Science Discipline Lead
National Board Certified Teacher (2006, 2015), M.I.T., University of Washington; B.S., Oceanography, University of Washington
Burton joined Eastside Prep in 2016 after fifteen years at a public junior high school in Woodinville where he taught seventh-grade Life Science, eighth-grade Earth and Space Science, and challenge ninth-grade Introductory Physical Science. Here at EPS, Burton teaches Scientific Thinking 3 and Environmental Practices 7.
Burton likes to collaborate with colleagues to create better learning experiences both in the science discipline and across disciplines in the grades he teaches. He enjoys being involved with students outside the classroom through EBC Week, grade level field trips, environmental service days, club activities (Magic the Gathering, Green Club, or 8th Grade Leadership Lab), and school-sponsored outdoor adventures such as the annual ski day at Crystal Mountain.
When he isn’t teaching, Burton loves to play outdoors with his wife, two sons, and dog Lola. He is a full-fledged geek, keeping up on all manner of sci-fi shows and comic books. His family also loves to cheer on all the Seattle sports teams, particularly the Seahawks, Mariners, and Sounders.
“EPS has a great reputation. My favorite subject to teach is Earth and Space Science and I love taking students outside to learn in nature, so this is a perfect position for me.”
