Curious about the companies that call Puget Sound home? Wondering what the future of technology holds? Want to try your hand at dreaming up that future? Seattle is an area known for its technology companies, both long-established and at the forefront of innovation. This EBC experience is your opportunity to explore the exciting world of technology and industry in Seattle. With a unique focus on interactive learning and youth engagement, this 5-day EBC will encompass a variety of activities, from hands-on exploration to tours and guest speakers. We will inspire and ignite your curiosity, giving you a taste of the innovation and ingenuity that define the Pacific Northwest. This EBC experience is suitable for students with a broad range of backgrounds with technology: no experience is required. Students will arrive and depart from campus between 8am and 5pm each day (specific times will vary), and transportation will be provided by shuttle bus or van between locations. Moderate amounts of walking and standing will be required for site visits.

Itinerary

(All activities and days may change, based on availability and scheduling constraints)

Day 1: Physical Engineering. Kick-off meeting. Physical and structural engineering lab, in teams. Lunch at EPS. Visit to area physical/aerospace engineering company. Visit MOHAI. Back to EPS for pickup.

Day 2: Digital and Physical Collide. Physical computing and sensing lab on EPS campus. Lunch at EPS. Visit Microsoft or UW research labs to get a glimpse at the sensing, physical computing, and accessibility frontier. Back to EPS for pickup.

Day 3: Entrepreneurship. Morning visit with computational biologists. Speak with a panel of entrepreneurs, incubators, and investors on picking the right innovations. Lunch in Seattle with panelists. Afternoon visit with group computing for social good. Back to EPS for pickup.

Day 4: Artificial Intelligence. Computing lab on EPS campus: using and building artificial intelligence. Guest speaker on Big Tech approaches to AI. Lunch at EPS. Visit an artificial intelligence group. Back to EPS for pickup

Day 5: Summation. Guest speaker on technology and public policy/legal issues with tech innovation. Lunch on campus. Students build a physical and digital time capsule of the state of tech today and their predictions for the future.
