Accommodations
Within our mission as an independent college preparatory school, Eastside Preparatory School will provide support to qualifying students who provide current and eligible documentation of a learning disability, health impairment, or physical disability. EPS offers accommodations for assessments and classroom instruction. Approved accommodations for each student are determined based on the recommendations of the diagnosing professional and teacher observation. On some occasions, we may create a temporary, informal accommodation plan for students who are pursuing a neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluation.
The term “accommodation” may be used to describe an alteration of the environment, curriculum format, or equipment that allows an individual with a learning difference or disability to gain access to content and/or complete assigned tasks. They allow students with disabilities to pursue a regular course of study. Since accommodations do not alter what is being taught, instructors should be able to implement the same grading scale for all students.
Students are not required to use their accommodations for every assessment. Instead, they indicate their intent to use an accommodation by completing an online form that is sent to Learning Support.
