Insight: Why I Love the First Day of School
By Sam Uzwack, Head of School
Next Wednesday will be my 43rd first day of school. You’d think after all this time, I’d be able to sleep the night before. No such luck, I’m afraid, I’m just too excited! It’s a day filled with anticipation, new possibilities, and a hint of nervousness. For our new 5th and 6th graders, the transition from elementary to Middle School brings with it a sense of maturity and independence, as students step into a world that promises new experiences, friendships, and opportunities for growth. The same holds true for our new 9th graders.
The first day of school is like opening a new book, with blank pages waiting to be filled with stories and adventures. Students arrive at campus with a mix of emotions, eager to explore their new environment. One of the most thrilling aspects of the first day is meeting new people, seeing old friends, and meeting your teachers. Regardless of how long you’ve attended EPS, it’s always a fresh start full of possibilities.
While the first day is filled with excitement, it’s natural for students to feel a bit nervous. The fear of the unknown and the pressure to fit in can be overwhelming. But here’s the thing…we got you! Teachers and staff are there to provide guidance and reassurance so that every student feels welcomed and supported. We will point you in the right direction of a classroom and help you navigate the lunchroom.
The first day of school is a memorable experience that sets the stage for an exciting journey ahead. It’s a day of new beginnings, filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and make lasting memories. As you navigate through the challenges and joys of school, you’ll build a foundation for the future, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and friendships that will shape your lives. It’s no wonder it is such a big day…and I can’t wait to see you all.
Best,
Sam
